Effective Method of Intervention
We, in the 24th district, had access to several programs that were very good, however, they were short term in nature and many of us felt that longer programs were needed for certain individuals. Ms. Callahan had been involved in research that addressed these matters, including but not limited to effective methods of intervention and duration of involvement.
I began making referrals to the program and was most satisfied with the results. The party or parties, were seen in a timely fashion, screened/evaluated for service needs and the appropriate treatment plan was proposed. I felt most confident in utilizing Ms. Callahan because she was a mental health professional with experience in family abuse, substance abuse and mental health issues in general. A report was always timely filed summarizing the evaluation and explaining the specialized plan for the individual/family.
The program was well presented and was explained both with a short “role play”, statistics and a general presentation of the nature of the program. It was clear, precise, professional, well documented and well received by the audience. The statistical accuracy and the efficacy of the program remained unchallenged.

Speaks Directly to the Heart of Challenges
I am the author of Bernadette’s Pages: An Intimate Crossroad. I am not a graduate of the Domestic Values Educational Support (DVES) program but I am a strong advocate for it and its founder, Sandra Callahan.
Why? Because my husband and I are grateful recipients of this amazing woman’s wisdom and insight into the dynamics that can “make or break” a family.
I watched eighteen years of marriage end with no option for reconciliation when my husband left, professing to love another woman. Shocked, angered, shamed and panicked, I turned to Sandra Callahan for help.
An avid writer, I shared rantings from my journal in weekly sessions with Sandra. Her clarity and ability to “cut to the quick” with the issues at hand amazed me. When she sent me home with writing assignments the application of our sessions moved from band-aids to major surgery. My perception of the world, my place in it as a victim, negative beliefs I carried about myself, my husband and the marriage we had destroyed – even self-esteem issues that gnawed at me since childhood – surfaced for healing under her watchful eye.
The core belief and values work Sandra Callahan challenged me with is some of the most profound I have done. Were it not for her vital understanding – and my tiny bit of willingness to follow her suggestions – I would not be enjoying the life I have today with the same man who professed to love another! And I certainly would not have published my book, a testimony in itself to the work that Sandra now offers through the DVES program.
