“Treatment providers who render different approaches for men and women who assault, only serve to perpetuate the problem: that men and women should not be treated as equals” - Callahan
Domestic Values Educational and Support offer services that include individualized assessments with individualized treatment planning based upon a motivational enhancement approach. Each assessment addresses the social, educational, legal, mental, emotional, sexual, recreational and spiritual impact of unmanageability, experienced in each person’s life as a result of his or her choices and behaviors. Such assessments include a determination of the appropriateness of services and their levels of care, and/or a need for referral to other community agencies. Some individual and/or family counseling may be recommended and/or provided, based upon the participant’s individual needs. Case management is also a component of our programming. This service includes a coordination of care with other community agencies to provide wraparound services.
The Domestic Values Educational and Support program offers two tracks of psycho-educational programming, which include prevention and intervention for both addiction and domestic violence. Programming varies in length based upon individual and familial needs and includes a combination of education and support group practices. The D.V.E.S. program provides assessments, individual and family support, education and 12-step support for men, women and children who have experienced the traumas of domestic violence and/or other addictive behaviors that have impacted the family as a whole.
Programs may be attended separately or concurrently based upon each participant’s individual needs. The first hour of each track consists of an interactive educational group, in which client’s will learn to identify personal and familial problems, confront denial and practice skills such as: assertive communication, alternative coping abilities, values clarification, identifying and healing through co-dependency, and the paradoxical dynamics of power and control. The second hour of the program is a support group, in which clients are asked to focus on their experience, strength, and hope. You will be encouraged to explore your expectations and behaviors in current and past relationships, the good times and the bad. At the same time, you will be asked to take a look at your goals, your values, and your needs to discover how they might be achieved.
DVES also welcomes the opportunity to provide public education to the community.
